Supporting Healthier Children Through Our Wellness Champion Program

Starting childcare or early learning is an exciting milestone for children and families, but we understand that one of the biggest concerns parents often have is illness. While exposure to common childhood viruses is a normal part of early development, repeated sickness can be challenging for the whole family — affecting sleep, routines, work commitments, and overall wellbeing.

At Little Learners Place in Hilbert and Haynes, WA, we are committed to creating safe, healthy, and nurturing early learning environments where children can learn, play, and grow with confidence. That is why we are continually looking for ways to strengthen our health, hygiene, and wellbeing practices across our childcare centres, including through the introduction of a dedicated Wellness Champion role.

What Is a Wellness Champion?

Our Wellness Champion helps support a strong culture of wellbeing, hygiene, and healthy practices across Little Learners Place. This role focuses on promoting everyday strategies that help create healthier environments for children, families, and educators.

At our Hilbert and Haynes early learning centres, the Wellness Champion helps support:

  • Strong hygiene and handwashing practices
  • Healthy workplace habits
  • Staff wellbeing and illness management
  • Cleaning and infection control awareness
  • Family health communication and education
  • Calm, safe, and supportive environments for children

While illness cannot always be avoided in childcare or early childhood education settings, we believe proactive wellbeing practices can make a meaningful difference for children, families, and educators.

Everyday Practices That Support Healthier Early Learning Environments

Our Wellness Champion helps encourage and reinforce many of the daily health and hygiene practices already embedded within Little Learners Place. These practices help support cleaner, safer, and more settled environments for children attending childcare in Hilbert, Haynes, and surrounding areas.

These include:

  • Encouraging regular and effective handwashing
  • Supporting strong cleaning and sanitising routines
  • Promoting outdoor play and fresh air
  • Encouraging hydration and healthy eating habits
  • Supporting rest, sleep, and calm routines
  • Helping educators prioritise their own wellbeing
  • Reinforcing illness exclusion practices where required

These small everyday actions work together to help reduce the spread of illness and support each child’s overall health, comfort, and wellbeing.

Supporting Families Beyond the Classroom

We understand that when children are unwell, it affects the entire family. Time away from work, disrupted sleep, medical appointments, and caring for sick children can place significant pressure on parents and caregivers.

By investing in wellbeing initiatives and creating a strong culture of health awareness at Little Learners Place, we aim to support not only children, but families as well.

For families looking for trusted childcare in Hilbert, a supportive early learning centre in Haynes, or family-focused daycare near Armadale, Forrestdale, Piara Waters, Harrisdale, Byford, and surrounding Perth suburbs, our Wellness Champion Program is one of the ways we show our commitment to children’s health and wellbeing.

A Whole-Service Approach to Wellbeing

Our Wellness Champion role is part of our broader commitment to creating early learning environments where children feel safe, supported, and nurtured each day.

At Little Learners Place, we know that no childcare centre can eliminate childhood illness completely. However, by prioritising health, hygiene, educator wellbeing, and strong communication with families, we can help create healthier experiences for everyone.

Because healthy early learning environments start with supported people — children, families, and educators working together.
